Kevin and I stopped here on our return from an overnight kayaking trip down the Delaware
river from Milford to Eshback access with my brother Jeff and his son Eric. The west side
Appalachian Trail access was near the High Point State Park entrance road and we deemed it
to be too high up and too busy. We drove around to the east side on Route 519 and hiked the
Appalachian Trail southbound about two miles to the top. We happened to stop and talk to a
woman through hiker who pointed out the short side trail to the monument at the top. After
pictures and taking in the views we went over to the monument but a ranger stepped in front
of us to tell us it had just closed. I was bummed that there was no announcement that it was
closing and that although it was normally scheduled to close at 4:00 my watch read exactly
3:46. Oh well, we still bagged another one!

By now, we have started a tradition of celebrating each highpoint with some fig newtons!
We should have climbed the
tower first and then taken the
pictures!
