Woodall Mountain is a short way into Mississippi when coming from Alabama and not far off of
Route 72. The area near the highway exit is the site of a big Civil War battle although we did not
see any signs or memorial markers. The gravel road to the summit starts in a residential area.
The gate was open so there was no need for much walking to bag this peak. Other than a small
marker in the middle of the turnaround and a couple of benches nearby there was nothing to
note the high point. It was wooded enough to hide the views and there were various towers
but it was clean and not as bad as some other accounts led me to believe.

This completed our five highpoint tour of the deep South. The only thing left was to try a real
southern BBQ which we got at Corky's near our hotel in Collierville just outside of Memphis.
Kevin and I enjoyed stuffing ourselves with their ribs. (Note to Pam: Corky's Best BBQ is not
best for your stomach.) Our flight the next morning would be too early to squeeze in a trip to
Graceland.

We put 1,920 miles on the Toyota Camry rental car which was fortunately very fuel efficient,
averaging 33.6 mpg. At less than $2 a gallon, it came to about $110 for the whole trip.
Pam's number 8.
Bob and Kevin's number 20.
