Yesterday, Kevin and I started out on what would be our longest driving trip and also a
productive one in terms of number of highpoints completed. There would be no big mountains
or hikes, and a lot of miles in the car, so it did not have the same trepidation level as some
other trips, but just the same I know they all offer some unexpected adventures and some
good times together.  I was also looking forward to the numbers - after this there would be only
a few tough peaks left.  The plan took us from Madison, Wisconsin, north to Michigan's upper
penninsula, around the corner of Lake Superior to the Boundary Waters Canoe Wilderness,
and then west across North Dakota, south to the Mount Rushmore area of South Dakota, and
then back east for Iowa and Illinois before returning to Madison.  The wild card is Missouri
which we missed on our deep south tour and which does not seem to be one which we can
get to on the way to anywhere else.  It will take a lot of driving but if we are far enough ahead of
schedule it would be great to get that one in too.

Our flight out of Westchester, through Detroit to Madison went well.  We rented a Chevy Malibu
which I was surprised to like so much and which only had 7050 miles on it.  We did our usual
stop at a Walmart for food and supplies and drove north 2 1/2 hours.  Our destination was
Council Grounds State Park which turned out to be full.  Luckily, the nearby New Wood
County Park along the Wisconsin River had some availability. It only has seven sites but it was
nice.  Kevin got a fire going for marshmallows.  It was about 40 degrees and clear at night.

The next morning, Sunday, May 26 was our first "summit" day.  It was less than an hour drive
to Timm's Hill and still fair and cool. There are two adjacent towers on Timm's Hill, one of
which is not for the acrophobic.  The older steel radio tower is 22 meters high with an outside
ladder that has a steel cable to allow clipping in if you have a harness.  We met another father
and son team, Tom and Avery, and once Avery climbed it Kevin knew he had to as well.

From here it was on to Michigan's upper peninsula through the land of lakes, bass boats,
pickup trucks, and ATV's.
The highpoint is directly under
the radio tower.
