The most difficult thing about "conquering" the Kansas high point was the long drive and the
heat. After leaving Panorama Point, Kevin and I stocked up with supplies at a Walmart in
Sydney, Nebraska, and continued the drive which roughly followed the Colorado state line
around the northeast corner and back south.  As we approached Mount Sunflower with the car
thermometer reading 106 degrees, Kevin asked "Can it be any hotter?!" which was answered
rather quickly as the temperature suddenly climbed to 113 in just the last mile. I wish he would
learn to not ask such things.

One thing that was striking about this high point visit was the dead silence. I know we were far
from any highways but with the wide open spaces I would have expected at least some wind
noise.

We finished the day with a quick swim in the pool at the RV Park and Horse Motel in Lamar,
Colorado.
Seems a bit far from everything.
