The real highlight of this day came earlier with an unplanned side trip to the Pensacola Naval
Air Museum prompted only by the sight of a billboard on the way to Lakewood Park. The
display of military planes and aerospace paraphernalia held even Pam's attention for several
hours. We all enjoyed the colorful narrative of the navy veteran who took a group of us on a
trolley-bus tour out near the hangars for a closer look at over fifty additional historic aircraft.
We knew this side trip would likely put us behind schedule too much to fit in a trip to
Graceland the next day but we all felt that it was a worthwhile tradeoff.

Highpoint number eighteen for us is the lowest of them all and it was not particularly notable.
You basically had to get out of your car in a small, out of the way park, and wander over to the
marker. Nobody else was there at the time. Our stay that night was back into Alabama where
we stopped just short of Birmingham in the town of Pelham.
No hiking boots required.
The view from near the "summit".
